The joint roundtable between the Middle East Political and Economic Institute (MEPEI) and the China Institute of Contemporary International Relations (CICIR) was held on the 26th of June 2019, with the support of the EURISC Foundation. Primary representative from CICIR was professor Feng Zhongping, who is the Vice President of CICIR, focusing his research on European Integration, Sino-EU relations, US-EU relations, NATO, etc.
The key topics of discussion were as follows:
- The overall regional security of the Middle East in connection with the JCPOA and its recent developments.
- The impact of the Belt and Road Initiative in the region.
- Current developments and perspectives of cooperation between Central and Eastern European countries in relation to China.
- Security issues in the Central and Eastern European region concerning the Black Sea.
The event hosted representation from CICIR, with Prof. Feng Zhongping; Dr. Liu Mingli, Deputy Director, Institute of European Studies; Prof. Wang Li, Research Fellow, Institute of European Studies; Dr. Chen Yang, Associate Research Fellow, Institute of European Studies and Dong Yifan, Assistant Research Fellow, Institute of European Studies in attendance, along with a representative from the Chinese Embassy in Romania. The European representation at the event was conveyed through diplomatic officials and academics.
