On February 8, 2021, China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) has signed a design and execution contract to start the construction of five residential towers in New Alamein on the Mediterranean coast.
New Alamein, officially New Alamein City, is a new city in northwest Egypt inaugurated by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi on 1 March 2018. New Alamein lies on the Mediterranean Sea, approximately 85 km west of Borg El Arab International Airport. Still, under construction, New Alamein was conceived by the Egyptian government as a center for tourism, education, and government.
The contract was signed by CSCEC with Egypt’s New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA), a government housing body.
Assem El-GAZZAR Egyptian Housing Minister along with Mohamed El BADRY Egyptian Ambassador to China, Liao LIQIANG the Chinese Ambassador to Cairo, and Xiao JUNZHENG the Chinese Plenipotentiary Minister have witnessed the signing of the contract through a videoconference.
Minister El-GAZZAR said in a statement that the contract will see the design and execution of five fully-finished residential towers with services, overlooking an artificial lake.
The construction of the towers will be self-financed from New Urban Communities Authority’s resources, with an agreement undertaken for CSCEC to pay their dues in the local currency, the minister El-GAZZAR added.
Liao LIQIANG, China’s Ambassador said the Egyptian government has made in recent years great efforts in urban development and the establishment of new cities.
“China and Egypt have worked hand in hand to continuously achieve new development results,” the ambassador said, adding that China’s Belt and Road Initiative is deeply integrated with Egypt’s “Vision 2030”.
The CSCEC is constructing the huge Central Business District project in Egypt’s new administrative capital which embraces a number of skyscrapers, including the 385-meter-high Iconic Tower, expected to be the tallest in Africa upon completion.
Zheng XUEXUAN the general manager of the CSCEC said the company has successively implemented a series of high-quality projects in Egypt.
According to the company, the contract value is about 1.92 billion U.S. dollars.
