Publication of Book titled “120 Years of Diplomatic Relations between The Islamic Republic of Iran and Romania”

11 July 2025 is the 123rd anniversary of diplomatic relations between Iran and Romania. Iran was among the first Asian countries which recognized Romania and in July 1902, Iran was the first Asian country that established diplomatic relations with Romania.

On this occasion, the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Bucharest and Middle East Political and Economic Institute of Romania are pleased to announce the publication of a book titled “120 Years of Diplomatic Relations between The Islamic Republic of Iran and Romania”. This comprehensive publication commemorates more than a century of diplomatic, economic, cultural, and historical ties between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Romania. The book is composed of 356 pages and a selection of documents from Iranian and Romanian diplomatic archives is attached to the book.

The book is the result of the cooperation between the Middle East Political and Economic Institute of Romania (MEPEI) and the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Bucharest.

This project draws from a wide array of resources and features a significant number of contributors who have lent their expertise and experience to craft a document of reference regarding the 120^th anniversary (July 2022) of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Romania and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The book is depicting important aspects of the diplomatic bilateral relations between Iran and Romania. Since the beginning of relations, despite the ups and downs, this relationship has continued amidst significant international and regional developments, always based on mutual respect, political understanding, and shared interests.

Moreover, the book provides a detailed overview of the milestones in bilateral relations, highlighting key diplomatic events, cultural exchanges, economic cooperation, and people-to-people connections. It serves as both a historical record and a celebration of the enduring friendship and mutual respect between the two nations.

This project, which started in 2022, was accomplished after 3 years of hard work by Romanian and Iranian researchers and reflects the commitment to fostering deeper understanding and cooperation between the two nations.

We invite all those interested in international relations and the rich history between Iran and Romania to explore this significant publication. We hope this Book will contribute to strengthening ties in the years to come.
