On April 21, 2020 the Russian President Vladimir PUTIN and the Iranian counterpart Hassan ROUHANI discussed during a phone conversation the recent situation related to the spread of the novel coronavirus pandemic.
“The issues of controlling the spread of coronavirus infection are discussed in detail” and ROUHANI thanked Russia for its assistance to Iran.
“The two sides agreed to promote cooperation between relevant departments, including direct contacts between the ministries of health”.
The two presidents also said it is necessary to strengthen cooperation in the struggle to contain the outbreak of coronavirus through collective cooperation, including the Russian initiative to create “green corridors” free from trade wars and sanctions during the crisis for deliveries of medicines, food, equipment, and technologies.
They also touched upon other pressing issues on the international agenda and issues of bilateral cooperation, about the need to advance the Astana peace process over Syria through trilateral talks, which involve Iran, Russia, and Turkey.
According to the Kremlin press service, PUTIN and ROUHANI particularly touched upon big mutual projects in the fields of energy, agriculture, and transport.
Vladimir PUTIN censured the US sanctions against Iran as a violation of human rights and said, “Unfortunately, the West talks a lot about human rights but they act differently in practice.”
